Am I a good candidate for veneers?
If you have one or more teeth that are
healthy, but need some cosmetic improvement,
you should talk us at AIAD. People get
veneers for a variety of reasons, but the
result is always beautiful new teeth that
make your smile younger and attractive.
UP
Why do people choose to get veneers and what
can veneers do?
Veneers completely cover the visible portion
of your teeth, giving them a healthy and
natural looking appearance. Since veneers
can change the size and shape of your teeth,
they can be used for a variety of purpose.
They can:
-
Close gaps between teeth
-
Repair minor tooth imperfections
and defects
-
Whiten stained teeth that resist
to bleaching
-
Lengthen and change the shape
of teeth
-
Minor misalignments correction
-
Improve the appearance of
chipped, cracked and worn teeth
-
Protect teeth from further damage
UP
Are veneers a good option for a total
makeover and smile design?
Yes, in fact, when you see a total smile
makeover, very often what you are seeing is
a new smile of beautiful porcelain veneers.
They can completely transform a smile
in just two or three visits.

What are the differences between composite
and porcelain veneers?
We can create composite veneers right on
your tooth during the course of one
appointment. The material and process for
composite veneers are the same the composite
bonding. The major advantage of the
composite veneers is treatment time. If
composite is used, we will actually make the
veneer directly on the prepared tooth. The
veneer is then smoothed and polished to look
like your natural teeth. Since it takes only
one appointment, you can leave the office
with a brand new smile. Composite veneers
are the best cosmetic option for patients
who are in rush and don't have enough time.
UP
What are the disadvantages of composite
veneers?
One of the disadvantages of composite
veneers is that they are not as strong as
the porcelain veneers and therefore are more
prone to fracture. However, if a fracture
does occur, they can be easily repaired by
Dr.hamidifar because the same material that
was used initially to make the veneer can be
added in the same manner to fix it.
Another disadvantage is that the color,
although stable, is not as stable as the
same porcelain veneers. This means that over
time the composite veneers may get darker or
turn yellow.

What are the disadvantages of porcelain
veneers?
One of disadvantages of porcelain veneers is
the fact that this technique is not a
reversible process. Although minimal, the
must be prepared by removing some of the
existing tooth structure to make room for
the veneers. Also, while the finished
veneers form a tight, strong and durable
bond with your tooth, the porcelain can
fracture under extreme stress. If fractured,
by teeth grinding or improper use, a
porcelain veneer will probably need to be
replaced.
UP
When aren't porcelain veneers an appropriate
treatment?
There are four situations that certain
teeth, or certain people, aren't good
candidate for porcelain veneers. These are:
-
Porcelain veneers cannot be placed on
unhealthy teeth.
-
Porcelain veneers aren't a good choice
for people who clench and grind their
teeth.
-
Porcelain veneers must be bonded to
tooth enamel.
-
Placing a porcelain veneer on a tooth
will not provide a strengthening effect.
UP
What type of veneer is right for me?
For lower cost and fewer appointments
without much alteration to your natural
tooth structure, composite veneers make a
good choice. The strength, durability and
life-like appearance of the porcelain
veneers make them very popular and a stellar
choice for a full smile transformation and
smile makeovers.
UP
How long will porcelain veneers last?
There are no hard and fast rules about how
long you can expect your porcelain veneers
to last. You can certainly expect that they
will remain cosmetically and structurally
sound for many years, but it is unrealistic
to expect that they will last forever. With
good home care and by exercising good
judgment, it seems likely that porcelain
laminate veneer could last well in excess of
8 to 10 years.
UP
Once I have veneers, what can I expect?
Once the veneer is in place, it will
function just like a regular tooth. A veneer
is considered a permanent tooth restoration,
but that doesn't mean it is expected to last
forever. Proper care and habits and regular
dental examinations and cleaning will allow
you to keep you veneers looking beautiful
for ten years or more.
