What about all-ceramic crown and bridge?
Until recently, crowns were done of two ways
gold or porcelain fused to metal. It means
all of them have a metal substructure or
framework which is necessary for strength.
It is difficult to cover the dark color of
the metal. The margin of the crown (where
the crown meets the gum) has to be in metal.
This is what causes "dark line syndrome".
Dentist would often try to hide this metal
margin underneath the gum line. This results
in the gum appearing dark in this area known
as "gum tutee". Or even worse, if the gum
recedes, the metal is exposed creating a
very unattractive appearance.
Today's restorations have solution! All
ceramic crowns eliminate metal completely.
That means no darkness at the gum line.
There are many different types of
all-ceramic system to restore a tooth. More
information about the
aesthetic crowns and
bridge.

What are the advantages of tooth-colored
(white) fillings?
Tooth-colored (composite) fillings are made
of microscopic glass particles in a resin
matrix and are able to bond to tooth
structure adhesively. The advantages of
composite filings are as follow:
-
Since they bond to the teeth, composite
fillings restore most of the original
strength of the tooth structure. Amalgam
fillings weaken the teeth, making them
susceptible to breaking.
-
Composite fillings restore the natural
appearance of the tooth.
-
Composite fillings require less removal
of tooth structure.

How do I choose a cosmetic dentist for my
cosmetic needs?
This is a very important and wisely
question. For the best results, it is
important to know the qualifications and
experience of the treating dentist. There is
a great difference between a good general
dentist who thinks he or she can do cosmetic
dentistry, and an artistically inclined and
qualified cosmetic dentist. If the
appearance of your smile is important to
you, you need to understand this difference.
Since cosmetic dentistry is not a registered
and legally recognized specialty, doing
cosmetic dentistry properly requires
extensive extra training that can take years
after graduation. Cosmetic dentist must
dedicate themselves to extensive hours of
education after dental school to be able to
create beautiful smiles. This means a heavy
commitment of time, money and energy for the
dentist. A cosmetic dentist is trained to
create things not to fix things. A cosmetic
dentist is passionate about the appearance
of the work and getting it to look as pretty
as possible.
So, ask your dentist about his or her
training in this field of dentistry. Ask
about continuing education courses and
experience. A very effective way to know
your dentist's skills is asking to see
before and after photo of their work. The
best advice I can give you is that "NEVER
CHOOSE A COSMETIC DENTIST FROM ADVERTIZING
MAGAZINES".
